The past month has been a crazy one, what with planning two major art shows throughout the city…but amazingly we were able to pull it all off almost flawlessly.
The first show, held at Basia’s Café on Pearl Road was a huge success for both the Photo Club and Basia’s Café. Brunswick City Councilman Tim Smith said, “I’ve never seen this many people here, let alone on a Friday night. What you guys are doing is amazing.” Words like these were heard throughout the night in between upbeat jazz songs performed by a small group from the Brunswick High School Jazz Band.
Over 250 people packed themselves into tiny Basia’s to view thirteen photographer’s works. Participating in the show were: Deb Bitzan, Lauren Lipovic, Mary Allen, Chris Wolfe, Katie Crider, Jake Busch, Rachel McPherson, Priya Srivastava, Margo Harris, Brittny Brown, Natalie Dallachiesa, Adriana Popa, and Jessie Moore.
Attendees were also invited to vote on their favorite works for the evening. The two winners of the evening were “Love Alley” by Mary Allen and “Stone Path” by Chris Wolfe.
The second show at Brunswick City Hall was similar to the Basia’s Café show, featuring the same works for the most part. However, the band was not there…and neither were the people.
The show received a much smaller turnout than the Basia’s Café show, with no more than 75 people visiting. Even though there were less people, it seemed as a more intimate setting. “I’ve never seen City Hall look this beautiful,” said Barb Ortiz.
Those who visited were able to vote for their two favorite photographs of the show, like the Basia’s show. The winners of the evening were “Stone Path” by Chris Wolfe and “What’s Wrong With This Picture (I Spy Something Orange)” by Deb Bitzan.
The club is preparing for its last showing of the 2004-05 school year in mid-June at the Art on the Farm art gathering from 17 June through 19 June. The show will be held at Goodyear’s Big Barn on Pearl Road.
