Four Things to Consider Before Making Your Purchase
Price Semi-pro DSLR kits with a camera body, basic zoom lens and battery cost from $800 to $1500. (pro models—which perform faster and have even bigger sensors—can set you back as much as $8000)
Resolution If you’re moving up from a point-and-shoot, you’ll see improvement in your photo quality regardless of the DSLR’s pixel count. That’s partly because they have larger pixels, not more.
Lenses & Accessories DSLRs are compatible with a range of lenses, including telephotos, zooms, and wide-angles. Lenses, as well as accessories such as external flashes, lighting equipment, and vertical grips, often aren’t interchangeable between brands.
Features Keep in mind that DSLRs are designed primarily for taking quality photos, and thus some lack popular extras such as video and sound. Also, the LCD screen is for image review and menu navigation only—it’s not a viewfinder.
