What a great year we've had! Photo Club has many active and energized members who have worked really hard at achieving this year goals. You guys are awesome and I'm looking forward to the summer * we have Art on the Farm, Summer Darkroom Days, and 3 exciting photo projects. I want to thank and congratulate our active members for fundraising enough money to purchase a darkroom, putting together two great photo exhibits, writing and distributing an informative and dynamic newsletter, taking amazing photos (and greatly progressing in this area I might add), and for all of the things we have done throughout this past academic school year. I really enjoy our club and you make me more interested in photography and learning. Speaking of which, I will be taking a course this summer on Photoshop for all of you "digital people"! The focus of school year '04-'05 was on building up our club and establishing a dark room (which will be up and running by our first summer darkroom date); The focus for school year '05-'06 will be to continue to build up and organize the club but to look in the direction of digital photography. I'm looking forward to that and much more! You might be wondering how you are going to make it this summer without Photo Club meetings every Wednesday* Well, I have the solution! First, please attend the Summer Darkroom Days if you are interested in being trained to work in the darkroom. Training will take place in the morning, with the rest of the day devoted to working in the darkroom. You will need to come prepared with your roll(s) of film and photo paper. Photo paper can be purchased from Dodd Camera on Pearl Road in Medina. I recommend a multigrade paper for printing.
Darkroom Days are as follows:
Wednesday, June 22 10am-4pm
Wednesday, July 13 10am-4pm
Wednesday, August 10 10am-4pm
Second, I have come up with a photo assignment for each month. Push yourself to take the best pictures you can. Think back to the elements and principles when photographing. For June, think back through your history of picture-taking. What have you NEVER taken a picture of? What have you NOT wanted to take a picture of? What scene or action have you been AFRAID to take a picture of? That is your assignment. Take pictures of something that will be brand new to your lense. For July, try setting up an arrangement of still objects. It can be typical objects you have around the house or it can be a collection of wild and bizarre objects, or things you would never (normally) think to put together. Next, play around with lighting and interesting textures. Shoot this still arrangement of objects. Fill the entire viewfinder with the still life or parts of it. You may even want to try doing this with black and white film. These should make for interesting darkroom photos. For August, collect small, interesting, and meaningful objects for a photogram. We will have a photogram workshop in the fall. Lastly, have fun this summer and record everything you do with photos! Thanks again to all of the active members for all that you do and to the school and community for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Kelly LaForge
