This year at BHS, the administration is really cracking down on dress code. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be exposed to the most exposing fashions. In this “On The Job,” we explore the world of fashion photography. The world of a fashion photographer is an exciting, and busy one, which includes traveling to exotic locations while meeting the most beautiful people in the world. A fashion photographer should be able to work with different types of light—natural and artificial. They need to have a good eye for style and beauty, and be able to choose poses that will make not only the model look good, but also clothes and accessories. Entry-level salaries usually range between $15,000-25,000, and more experienced photographers will have a salary of $25,000-50,000. Those who can establish themselves as a brand name will usually make over $100,000. A degree in photography or art is recommended, and fashion photographers should have education in fashion design. The International Academy of Design and Technology, with campuses in Detroit and Chicago, offers good fashion photography programs, if this is a career you are interested in.
